How to use a digital certificate
Overview
This guide explains how to use a digital certificate with Redtrust. This process is useful to both end-users and also IT administrators who wish to verify that the agent is working as expected. You don't need any prior knowledge to follow this guide.
If you are using Mac, Redtrust is integrated with Keychain and you can go directly to point 3 below.
Before you start
To use your certificate you need:
- A Redtrust agent installed on your computer.
- Your Redtrust credentials.
- A compatible browser already configured. If you have not configured it yet, follow How to configure your browser.
Steps
-
Right-click on the Redtrust agent and then click Connect.
-
Log in with the credentials of the user you added in step 1, in this example
jane.doe@<local-domain>
. -
In a new browser window, go to the site you want to authenticate to. For example, the DGT portal, but any portal that accepts digital certificates will also work.
warningRemember to use a browser you have pre-configured.
-
Select the method of authentication that requires a certificate. In the DGT example, go to Access to My DGT > eIdentifier.
-
In the dialog box, select the certificate you want to use.
-
If everything went well, you have been authorized and can access the relevant administrative process.
If you are a Redtrust administrator, you can see the access event in the dashboard and in the Events tab of the admin console.
