How to downgrade the Redtrust unit
Overview
This guide explains how to downgrade the Redtrust unit. Downgrading to a previous version is a valuable option for maintaining system stability and for testing purposes. This guide will be useful to IT administrators.
Before you start
To downgrade the unit, you need:
- The firmware update file (bin).
- A backup file that corresponds to the version you are downgrading to.
- Administrator privileges or update and downgrade permissions.
If your system is in high availability mode, you must:
- Disable high availability before starting the downgrade.
- Update both units separately.
- Re-enable high availability after completing the downgrade on both nodes.
The system will restore the access credentials from the backup. If you do not have these credentials, do not proceed—you will not be able to access the platform after the downgrade.
When you downgrade, the system installs the lower version and restores the configuration from the provided backup file. Any changes made after the backup was created will be lost. Before downgrading, it is recommended to back up the system. This ensures you can restore your current version if needed.
Steps
-
Access Redtrust admin console.
-
Go to System > Unit > Maintenance.
-
Click the Upload old version of firmware field and select the update file. You can use the bin file of the version you want to downgrade to.
-
Click the Upload database backup field and select the database backup file. You can use the backup file (bak) downloaded during a backup. Click Downgrade.
infoSome browsers allow the option to drag the file from a file browser directly over the field.
-
Confirm the warning message and add the password to confirm your identity.
Bear in mind that the downgrade may take a few minutes. Once the process is complete, you will see a notification indicating whether it was successful.
If an error or unexpected event occurs (such as a power outage), the downgrade process may not complete. In such cases, the system automatically restores the unit to its state before the downgrade began. You may need to restart the unit manually. To do this, you must have physical access to the unit, use its remote management system (iDRAC), or, for virtual machines, access the virtual machine manager (such as vSphere, VMware, VirtualBox, Azure, or Amazon).
